TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) targets smaller Canadian companies, primarily microcaps. The Materials sector has the most representation among its listed companies at nearly 45% of the S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index* as of the end of 2024. Half of the 10 most-searched tickers for the Exchange are classified as constituents of the materials sector.

The Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (GMG) was the most-searched ticker, with significantly more views than HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. (HIVE), the second most-searched ticker. GMG focuses on providing clean energy solutions that rely on graphene, a carbon-based material that was first isolated in 2004. The stock saw significant movement during the year, which likely drove much of the attention it received.

Meanwhile, HIVE is a data center operator and crypto miner that powers its operations with green energy. Crypto miners and AI had a remarkable year in 2024, which may have helped drive searches for the company’s ticker. The company is included as one of the TSX Venture 50Ⓡ 2024 companies, a list that includes the Exchange’s top performers.

The third-most-searched ticker among TSXV-listed companies is HPQ Silicon Inc. (HPQ). The company provides sustainably sourced silicon and silicon-related materials to the green energy industry. Silicon is used in many industries, but is also crucial in semiconductor manufacturing.

Zentek Ltd. (ZEN) claimed fourth on the list. The company is an intellectual property development company focused on nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Through its research and partnerships, it is involved in a range of products from air filters in HVAC systems to medical diagnostics and fuel additives, though it is classified within the healthcare sector.

New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) is a gold mining company that holds the rights to the Queensway Project located in Newfoundland along the Trans-Canada highway. It falls into the fifth-most-searched spot.

Therma Bright Inc. (THRM), a healthcare company, is close to NFG in terms of its number of searches. THRM’s website describes the company as being involved in the “cosmeceutical” industry, providing treatments primarily in the area of skin care and pain management, and COVID-19 diagnostics.

The seventh-most-searched ticker was Sintana Energy Inc. (SEI), a company exploring and developing natural gas and oil assets. Like HIVE, the company is on the TSX Venture 50 list for 2024.

The companies claiming the eighth and ninth spots, respectively, are both from the materials sector: Canada Nickel Company, Inc. (CNC) and Colonial Coal International Corp. (CAD).While the former primarily mines nickel sulphide, a material crucial in the transition to net-zero carbon emissions, the latter produces coking coal, which is needed to make steel.

SATO Technologies Corp. (SATO) wraps up the list of the top 10 most-searched tickers for 2024. The company mines bitcoin, powering its operations with hydroenergy. It is included in the TSX Venture 50 2024 list of top-performing companies.
